An augmented reality board game fostering socioemotional skills and increasing engagement through a personalised experience.

Co-produced with Young People, Psychologists and Educators, for clinicians supporting young people with chronic health conditions and educators working to support the socioemotional needs of adolescents.

Evidence-based challenges develop communication skills, social problem solving and emotion regulation, while appealing scenarios prompt decisions about cognitive and physical health and wellbeing.

Dragons of Afterlands can help adolescents build positive relationships with staff and peers and can be used as a tool to reintegrate individuals into a group environment, thanks to the in person, remote and hybrid play options.

Evidence-based

Dragons of Afterlands has been tested for use in multiple settings and was found to improve wellbeing, emotional awareness, and emotional regulation in adolescents.

Innovative

Dragons of Afterlands combines innovative technology with traditional gameplay to create a unique experience for increasing engagement with adolescents.

Social Connection

Through in-person, remote, or hybrid play, Dragons of Afterlands fosters connection between players and may reduce loneliness.

  • "A fun way of exploring emotions."

Tom Smith, Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation

  • ”It helped because it made me think about life, and what’s going on with mental health and it made me say… how I was feeling about school, so I was able to take it out of me, so I was able to say to you like I feel stressed in school and stuff like that.”

  • “I think the 3D thing about this game so how it is like a boardgame and it’s like an electronic game just makes it cooler than just either one…and coz you can like do it physically with other people instead of, let’s say, connecting online, it makes it more interactive, so that’s really good for people.”

    Student Player

  • “It was fun, we got to be ourselves, we got to work as a team, we got to meet new people and that I got to make new friends... It was fun being here, and you made us feel welcome.”

    Student Player

  • “I think the game itself was like pretty nice, like the activities on it, was fun, especially the first time I played it, like it was different from anything else, like any other board game I’ve ever played.”
